Minions: The Rise of Gru – Movie Theaters Ban #GentleMinions Trend

If you were planning on dressing up to see Minions: The Rise of Gru after seeing the #gentleminions trend on TikTok, you may want to reconsider your wardrobe before heading out, as some movie theaters are now banning attendees in suits from seeing the new Minions film.
Yes, you read that right — if you’re donning your best clothes and going with a group to see The Rise of Gru, you may be denied entry.

Not all cinemas are banning the trend, of course, but many are.

As noted by BBC, some theaters in the UK have put a ban on any #gentleminions content due to “stunningly bad behavior” like throwing things and vandalism.
“It’s been absolutely heartbreaking,” a theater manager told BBC.

“We’ve had families who won’t even go back into the screen when we’ve tried to sort it out, families leaving before the film has even started, and of course, the children have been in tears.”

The #gentleminions trend is a reaction to the latest addition to the Minions movie canon.

The previous installment came out in 2017, so it’s been a while since the little yellow creatures have graced the screen.
The #gentleminions trend urges viewers to get dressed up in suits alongside a group of friends to celebrate the new movie and post videos of their looks and their best Gru-esque poses and quotes.

The trend has seriously caught on; a quick scroll through the hashtag on TikTok reveals nearly 20 million views of #gentleminions content and fleets of suited individuals heading to the theater.
While some theaters aren’t huge fans of the trend, Universal Pictures is.

“To everyone showing up to @Minions in suits: we see you and we love you,” they tweeted.

If you are planning to see the movie in costume with your friends, remember it is possible to take part in a fun, silly trend without being disrespectful to your fellow viewers.

The Minions would agree..
