Sex and the City royalty Kim Cattrall and Patricia Field reunited on May 5 for Variety’s Power of Women event in New York City, where Cattrall was an honoree.
Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the New York–set series, and Field, the series’s original costume designer, worked all six seasons of the original HBO show as well as two films. However, neither returned for the new HBO Max series, And Just Like That…, which premiered late last year.
At the event the British Canadian actor channeled Samantha’s iconic powerhouse style in a black Saint Laurent suit. Styled by Stella Greenspan, Cattrall wore a cream silk blouse underneath the jacket and pointed-toe gray heels.
Field, who currently outfits Lily Collins on the Netflix hit Emily in Paris, wore a leopard-print jacket with matching pants and pops of red to match her cherry-colored hair.
“We spent over 25 years of our lives together,” Cattrall shared of her friendship with the Emmy-winning costume designer. “I’m so used to her fluffing and zhuzhing that I was like, ‘I miss this! I miss you!’”
The SATC reunion didn’t stop with Cattrall and Field. Darren Star, the original series creator, and Candace Bushnell, the writer whose column and book served as the inspiration for the show, were also in attendance. None of the four is involved in And Just Like That…, which was recently renewed for a second season.
The 65-year-old actor was honored at the event for her impact on the entertainment industry and her work with The Actors Fund, a nonprofit that “fosters stability and resiliency, and provides a safety net for performing arts and entertainment professionals,” according to its website. Cattrall noted that this organization became even more important during the pandemic, when many actors were out of work for months on end.
“Even for working performers, it’s often a thin line between walking the red carpet and sleeping in your car,” she continued. “If COVID has taught us anything, no matter how hard you work or how good you are, situations can come out of the blue and knock you on your butt. When that happens, it’s not time to judge or retreat but to lend a hand.”
She also took the time to discuss her favorite word.
“The word no has difficulties sometimes traveling from the brain to the tongue,” she remarked. “There can be situations—shockingly—even today where a woman’s rights or opinion is not readily listened to, which makes this basic word all the more important.”
Kim Cattrall was honored alongside other prominent women in the industry like Queen Latifah, Camila Cabello, Amanda Seyfried, Drew Barrymore, and Venus Williams.
