The Prensa Ibérica media group has announced in a press release the appointment of Jesús Echevarría as general manager in Galicia. The conglomerate which already groups other publications such as Faro de Vigo and La Opinión de A Coruña, has recently acquired the newspaper El Correo Gallego. This appointment comes just eight months after the announcement of Raúl Estradera’s appointment as Inditex’s new communications director

Javier Moll, president of the Prensa Ibérica group – Prensa Ibérica

According to Prensa Ibérica, Echevarría has “a long career and a deep knowledge of the communication sector”. Over the last 17 years, the specialist has worked as director of communication and institutional relations for the multinational textile company InditexPablo Isla

As detailed by Inditex in April, Echevarría remained involved with the company, developing new projects and reporting directly to its new CEO, Óscar García Maceiras.

Several senior management dismissals at Inditex

Following the arrival of Marta Ortega as president of the fashion conglomerate this past spring, the group has progressively announced strategic adjustments in its senior management, bidding farewell to senior executives from the Pablo Isla era. Recently, long-time executive Eva Serrano left the group’s management in China, former CEO Carlos Crespo resigned after two decades with the company, and Jean-Jacques Salaün will step down as head of the French market at the beginning of February.

Upon his arrival at Prensa Ibérica, Echevarría will “promote the positioning and the business area” in Galicia, an area of “deep roots and strategic relevance” for the journalistic group. With this appointment, Echevarría will be succeeding Isidoro Nicieza, who has been appointed general manager of the group’s contents after 14 years serving as general manager in Galicia.

Echevarría expressed his delight at “joining the fastest growing communications group in Spain in its ambitious global project, particularly in Galicia, with the enormous potential that exists from both a professional and personal point of view”.

A graduate of the faculty of philosophy and letters of the Autonomous University of Madrid and the faculty of journalism of the Complutense University of Madrid, Echevarría holds a Master’s degree in journalism from the Autonomous University of Madrid/El País and has worked for leading Spanish newspapers including Ya, El Sol, Onda Madrid, Cadena SER, ABC and El País.

In addition to his experience at Inditex, Echevarría has held senior positions in the Hachette-Filipacchi group and in the Vocento group, as well as in the Altadis distribution company, which was formed from the merger of Spanish and French tobacco monopolies, Tabacalera and Seita.
