The ever-popular red-carpet lingerie trend is taking a step in the next logical direction: formal sleepwear. On April 21, Elizabeth Olsen arrived at a Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness photo call in Berlin wearing what basically amounts to fancy silk pajamas.
The WandaVision star looked radiant in a blue silk ensemble with floral embroidery from Armani Prive’s fall-winter 2021 couture collection. Though the camera flashes emphasized the silk’s decadent sheen, Olsen elevated the look even further with a sparkling bustier. She paired the set with silver sandals and a bold pink lip.
Elizabeth Olsen is not the only A-list celebrity taking advantage of this comfortable spin on red-carpet-appropriate lingerie. Ever since Rihanna stepped out in a full Dior boudoir ensemble in March 2022, it seems every Hollywood stylist has been calling in nothing but sheer dresses, corsets, and bustiers. Thanks to Bridgerton season 2, there’s seemingly no end in sight.
While many of these options can be restricting, Dakota Fanning recently struck the perfect balance between wearability and sex appeal at the premiere of Showtime’s The First Lady. On April 14, the actor arrived at the event in a black silk Rodarte slip dress featuring an open thigh slit and a sheer lace cutout extending from bust to hip. She topped off the ensemble with strappy black sandals and a sparkly Beladora choker.
Fanning softened the otherwise sultry look with a simple sweep of light pink blush and a matching lip. Her long blonde hair was styled with little black bows.
Obviously, both of these looks are winners, but they also got me thinking: What would a slumber party between the Fanning and Olsen sisters look like? I literally can’t imagine a celebrity hang that makes more sense than Dakota and Elle Fanning having a glam sleepover with Elizabeth, Mary-Kate, and Ashley Olsen…as long as there’s plenty of pizza.
