Olivia Rodrigo has been vocal about how she’s a Twihard (And a woman of taste! Team Edward!), but instead of relying on fangs for her 2022 Met Gala outfit, the singer chose to go the fairy route.
The Glossier ambassador followed up her Met Gala debut last year by wearing a sparkling purple Versace high-slit gown paired with violet platform heels. The gown’s draped neckline and sheer gloves played into the “Gilded Glamour” theme, which paid homage to American fashion throughout the 1870s until the turn of the 20th century. Her mermaid waves, sultry makeup, and purple butterfly hair accessories added to her fairy-esque look.
Rodrigo told reporters it was all about opulence while working with birthday girl Donatella Versace. “She’s the sweetest, and it’s actually her birthday today, which is incredible,” Rodrigo explained. “I just think she’s such a genius and also the sweetest angel, so I feel very lucky to be working with her.”
On May 2, one day ahead of the 2022 Met Gala, the Sour singer got some buzz going when she stepped out in New York City with bestie and fellow Twihard, Conan Gray, while wearing a sheer metal minidress over a strapless black bra and high-waist briefs with platform black Mary Jane’s. Given that the singer is currently on tour, it was clear she was in town prepping for fashion’s biggest event of the year.
The street style look seems to be a nod to the 2021 Met Gala, where Rodrigo predicted this spring’s obsession with all things see-through. She celebrated last year’s theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” by wearing a black lace Yves Saint Laurent jumpsuit with a feathered neckline over another pair of black high-waist briefs. An open-toe version of the black platform pumps made an appearance as well.
The 2022 Met Gala was cohosted by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The “Gilded Glamour” theme serves as a lavish follow-up to last year’s exhibition, which was postponed to September 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both parts of the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” exhibit will be open to the public from May 7 until September 5, 2022.
