The “Genie in a Bottle” singer debuted her new haircut on Instagram in her promotional images ahead of her upcoming Las Vegas residency—because what better time to unveil your first major image update in decades than with a big career move? I don’t think we’ve ever seen Aguilera with hair this short before, and I’d argue it’s the most dramatic change she’s made to her hair since the “Drrrty” era.

“Immerse yourself in the fusion of art and music 💎,” Aguilera wrote in her Instagram caption. “I’m bringing an intimate, seductive and sophisticated new show to Las Vegas. @voltairelv will allow me to be up-close-and-personal with YOU for a truly modern twist on the performance experience.”
In the pic Aguilera poses against a black-and-white dystopia background wearing a black bustier bodysuit. Her face is turned up toward the sky, giving us a good view of her new chop. Instead of her usual waist-length blonde curls, the singer’s hair now barely reaches her jawline.
Now, if this is a permanent change or a temporary look for this photo shoot remains to be seen. But why wouldn’t Christina Aguilera try out the cut of the moment? Literally everybody else is doing it.
